Types of diabetes mellitus are three in total. You must have heard frequently about diabetes type 1 and 2. These two types are indeed more common than the other. Other types of the disease are gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes. As one note, there are many people in the stage of pre-diabetes. You should know that each of them has each characteristic. Diabetes Type 1

This is the first type of diabetes. In this type, there is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces insulin in little amount or no insulin at all. Why is it called as chronic? Chronic refers to a disease which can last for years or even be lifelong. It is frightening for sure. It typically appears in children and adolescents.  But adolescents are more common than children. This should be noted. Medical diagnosis is further needed to get an exact statement. There are several symptoms you need to know about this type. In the whole body, the sufferers will feel fatigue, excessive thirst, sweating or even hunger. Other symptoms are like vomiting, nausea, blurred vision, weight loss, headache, sleepiness, or fast heart rate. People who face those symptoms better go to see a doctor to get medical diagnosis.

Diabetes Type 2

Here is the most common diabetes case: diabetes type 2. Adults are most common sufferers for this type. It is again chronic condition. There is a certain condition which affects the way your body processes blood sugar or glucose. In this type, there are two conditions which occur in the body. First, the body produces insulin but it resists the insulin. Second, there is not enough insulin produced by pancreas. There are diabetes symptoms in this type such as weight loss or weight gain, fatigue, excessive thirst, excessive hunger, poor wound healing, frequent urination, or blurred vision.

Gestational Diabetes

This kind of diabetes is suffered by pregnant women. There is a certain condition which forms high level of glucose. It occurs frequently in the pregnant women and those who suffer from this type may develop diabetes type 2 in the future. Basically, there are no symptoms like the other two types. In order to diagnose the disease, a blood sugar test during pregnancy is conducted. Although there are no symptoms, people may experience yeast infection, frequent urination, fatigue, excessive hunger, or excessive thirst. Pregnant women who suffer from the disease better consult to a doctor for medical advice.

Pre-Diabetes

This is a condition in which the glucose in the body is high but it is not enough to be diabetes type 2. It is likely to become diabetes type 2 within 10 years if there is no intervention. Just like gestational diabetes, there are no symptoms. People will only experience weight gain, frequent urination, excessive thirst, excessive hunger, or fatigue. And that’s all types you should know in diabetes mellitus.
